A HAMILTON Hill mansion owned by the late retail magnate John McKinney has sold at auction for $3.8 million.
The property at 33a Markwell Street was one of a number of homes that sold under-the-hammer at Ray White’s ‘Auction Under the Stars Event this week, raking in nearly $40 million in sales and attracting 136 bidders.

The European-inspired Hamilton home was sold by renowned luxury jeweller Margot McKinney and her sister Jane Welch — daughters of Mr McKinney who died last year.
Ms McKinney’s jewellery creations are sold in Australia and in the US, and have been worn around the world by celebrities including former foreign minister Julie Bishop.
A four-bedroom house at 8 Teneriffe Dr, Teneriffe, also sold at the auction event for $3.325 million, along with a five-bedroom house at 118 Barton Rd, Hawthorne, for $2.275 million.
Also selling under the hammer on the night was a corner Woolstore apartment at Macquarie Street for $1.95 million to a buyer from Sydney bidding on the phone.
Ray White auctioneer Haesley Cush said agents were preparing for yet another influx of southern — and local — buyers in the lead-up to Christmas.
“We had multiple buyers watching and bidding from interstate and we are starting to see not only inquiry peaking, but also locals wondering what will happen when our southern friends get here,” Mr Cush said.
“Our southern friends are also now starting to worry and are buying before the borders even open so we are predicting an uplift as we head towards Christmas.”
