Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale is selling his American farmhouse meets Hampton’s luxury home in Brisbane due to plans to relocate closer to family.
The Lions star, who has played more than 210 games in his AFL career, will take his Coorparoo house, at 7 Brae Street, to auction later this month.
It was love at first sight when Neale and wife Jules first saw the renovated two-storey, five-bedroom, three-bathroom property almost four years ago.
“Jules only saw it on FaceTime as she was still in Perth, and I went through it, and she fell in love with it straight away,” Neale told realestate.com.au.
He added: “We love it, and it was a very hard decision (to sell) but for us we’ve got some family a little bit closer to where we are moving to, so that’s why we decided to put it on the market.
“It pains us a bit, as we really love the house and it’s our first one in Brissy, so it was a tough call.”
The pair bought the home upon completion of its renovation.
The old Queenslander charm was retained on the top level, while a brand-new build was added underneath.
The dwelling is perched on an elevated 539sqm block and features a picture-perfect front porch as well as a swing, four decks, a gazebo, a pool, and a sprawling balcony off the upstairs main bedroom.
“The upstairs outdoor balcony area is my favourite part of the house,” Neale said.
“It has a nice view of the city and it’s a really big space. You can fit a larger table and a large lounge setting up there as well.
“Jules and I quite often sit up there and have a glass of wine and usually in Brissy the weather is beautiful, so you can sit out there as long as you like.”
Elsewhere, there are multiple living and entertaining areas, both formal and informal, as well as a gourmet chef’s kitchen.
Selling agent Tony O’Doherty of Belle Property Bulimba said the expansive residence was a well-known and admired landmark in the area.
“Interest for this home since it has hit the market has been quite high,” Mr O’Doherty said.
“This home is very much a trifecta. It’s got the location, the land size, and the floorplan. On top of that, it’s also aesthetically pleasing.
“It’s a family home, no doubt about it, but it caters for all age groups.”
The home is scheduled for auction on 27 August.
