The widow of mining magnate Ken Talbot won a big payday after gaining approval to demolish a pre-war Brisbane riverfront home and replace it with a 12-unit complex.
Amanda Talbot raised the ire of residents in Bulimba on Brisbane’s southern banks after she applied to demolish a pre-1947 character home in Byron St.

Her persistence paid off three days before Christmas last year when the Brisbane City Council gave her the green light to go ahead with development plans.
Property records show that four months after the approval was granted, Mrs Talbot was listed as having sold the $7.05m site, with settlement date set at June 28.
The works Mrs Talbot pushed through DA approval involved clearing the site by demolishing the existing pre-1947 home as well removing an enormous waterfront shed, two smaller sheds, a boat ramp, two water tanks and a tree.
Red Door Architecture plans for the site show the basement will have 24 resident parking spaces, plus three for visitors. The ground floor will have three units each of which have plunge pools, while levels 1 and 2 both have four units each and the top floor has a penthouse facing the river on one side and a communal zone on the other with pool, outdoor lounge, barbecue and dining deck.
