A dream rental in Ascot has come to the market delivering true Palm Springs vibes to the outskirts of Brisbane, with a recently completed project called The Palms.
The mammoth project saw the transformation of a run-down unit block into six luxurious residences with chic and state-of-the-art finishes.
Lewis Shaw was the property developer behind the project and said he was inspired by the design of the popular hotel Halcyon House in Cabarita Beach on the Tweed Coast.
“I stayed down at Halcyon House and [the apartment complex] made me think of that design when I saw it, with the arches throughout, so I took some inspiration from that,” Mr Shaw said.
Each apartment has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a powder room, with ducted air-conditioning and an array of design-focussed finishes.
“The place that I live in is a $2 million penthouse apartment and I used the finishes in that as a benchmark,” Mr Shaw said. “I think we’ve done better than that.”
The project is a build-to-rent scheme, helping to boost the supply of rental accommodation, meaning Mr Shaw retains the project as the owner and landlord.
“I’ve been developing for about 16 years and originally I just couldn’t afford to keep them [completed projects],” said Mr Shaw.
“I had to build them and sell them to make a profit, but after a while you start to realise the land is the thing that goes up and if we have a whole block that’s what’s going to keep going up in value, so may as well hang onto that if we can afford to.”
Currently, all six apartments are available for $595 per week each and listing agent Jonathan Bell of Bell Estate Agents said there had been steady interest since going to market last week.
“It’s been very popular so far,” Mr Bell said.
“Obviously there’s not a lot like it on the market so it’s very unique… it really appeals to the young professional.”
Located only a short stroll to Racecourse Road, tenants can enjoy easy access to restaurants, shops, gyms and public transport.
And with only six residences within the complex, tenants can expect a more communal feel to apartment living.
