An unusual auction is taking the Slow Movement to new heights, with online bidding spread out over weeks to make someone’s wish for a Christmas Creek eco property come true in July.
You’ve seen slow cooking, slow development and slow fashion, and now the auction of 3275 Christmas Creek Road, Lamington, has allowed bidders to get into a slow auction, taking their foot off the gas and bidding over several weeks for the right to call Manderley home.

The private mountain haven has been steadily rejuvenated over 17 years next to Lamington National Park, with the less stressful sale process uniquely suited to the property which embraces Slow Movement ideals of a more considered way of living.
Real estate agent Michael Vettoretto of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty – Brisbane said bidding would end this Friday (July 29) for the property, with the top bid currently at $1.6m.
“Openn Negotiation is a totally transparent online bidding platform,” he said, combining the flexibility of a private treaty with the transparency of auction price discovery.
The way it works is potential bidders register to qualify for bidding on online bidding platform Openn Negotiation with the time period chosen by the seller able to be extended over several weeks.
“Sellers can approve buyers with flexible terms to bid in the auction, meaning there’s more chance the sale price will reach its full potential.”
There have been 90 buyer enquiries for the property, with 13 inspections and three bidders currently registered. Manderley opened for bids three weeks ago and closes 6pm this Friday.
The first bid cast was $1,5m from a buyer in NSW, then $1.55m from someone in Qld and now $1.6m from a bidder in Victoria.
Two hours from Brisbane CBD yet a world away in the Christmas Creek valley on the edge of the McPherson Range bordering Queensland and New South Wales, the property is like your own personal parkland.
“This is a place of personal rejuvenation, of connection with nature and appreciation of the beauty of the organic world we inhabit,” Mr Vettoretto said. “Manderley, with its unique private location, can be “read” in many ways.”
The three bedroom, two bathroom, four car garage home is designed around two buildings separated by a covered breezeway with a large front deck to soak in the views around the 64.75ha estate.
“On a clear night, watch a full moon rise over a mountain top and, later on, stand on the deck and look at the stars in a place of elevation and no light pollution. Lounge in bed with your cup of coffee or tea at dawn and watch the mist rise slowly off the creek while listening to the day’s first chorus of birds,” was how it’s been listed.
Mr Vettoretto said the current owners first visited the property 17 years ago with its name inspired by the book “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier which spoke of a dream “where nature comes back into its own on a neglected estate”.
“Today’s ‘Manderley’ is a vastly different place from the time of that first visit, but the message is the same. There is still work to be done – trees to be planted, weeds to be cleared, nature to be preserved. But this is also a place of reward for effort. Unlike the protagonist of “Rebecca”, you can see and feel the reward for your work here.”
