QLD couples off The Block Jimmy & Tam go head to head with Michael & Carlene in the first episode of the eight-week series of Renovate or Rebuild which was shot on the Gold Coast.
Strange, nerve-racking and fun is how popular QLD couples off The Block – Jim & Tam and Michael & Carlene – have described being back in front of the camera being judged as part of a new ‘greener’ home show set to air Monday.
The two pairs of Queenslanders who blitzed their time on The Block with their fair share of publicity are set to grace our screens in competition as part of the newest Channel 9 lifestyle show Renovate or Rebuild.

Michael & Carlene are Team Renovate QLD in the eight-week series of Renovate or Rebuild.
But rather than go through the building process themselves, this time they’ll be helping other Queenslanders make a crucial decision for what to do with property, that is renovate it – which Michael and Carlene will be arguing for, or knock down and rebuild it which will be the job of Jim and Tam to argue.
“It was definitely a bit strange,” Michael told The Courier-Mail. “Carlene and I have been doing TV pretty much since we completed The Block, but to go back as a contestant doing a challenge was quite different. I didn’t really enjoy the process of being judged on The Block and the same for this show, it was really nerve-racking but we’re happy with what we produced,” he said.
Jimmy & Tam are Team Rebuild QLD as they go head to head with Michael & Carlene in Renovate or Rebuild which starts Monday on Channel 9Life.
Jimmy & Tam, who were last year’s winners, said it was different experience being advisers this time around.
“It’s lots of fun but very different this time around,” Jimmy said. “Contrary to what a lot of people think The Block is true reality, there’s nothing staged. This time around it’s very different because we have to be prepared with what we say.”
Tam said: ”We’ve got to have our thinking caps on this time, it’s different but it’s so much fun as advisers.”
The two couples kick off the season for Renovate or Rebuild going head to head in Burleigh Heads – with judging determined by how environmentally friendly and energy efficient the work they propose is. They also feature in episode four in another property on the Sunshine Coast. Four other couples off The Block from New South Wales and Victoria will also go head to head in their states – all of whom are focused purely on trying to make sustainable housing more mainstream.
The first episode of the eight-week series of Renovate or Rebuild premieres on Channel 9Life on Monday October 4 at 9pm. From October 11, viewers can tune in from 8:30pm.
